DUEL IN THE PARK
On Saturday 4th May GHIAC presented a re-enactment of one of the last duels to be fought in Guernsey.
In 1794 Major Byng challenged Regimental Surgeon James Taylor.
In the ensuing duel, and contrary to the duelling practice then prevalent, one participant was shot to death.
The Duke of Richmond Hotel, which fronts on to the site of the duel, commissioned the re-enactment, which was presented before a banquet to mark the course of the hotel since it was founded.
Our Dancers are performing at the Castle 2 or 3 times a month (check the timetables on our home page).
Louise Weiss came to see us recently, and kindly sent us these pictures.
