DUEL IN THE PARK

On Saturday 4th May GHIAC are presenting a re-enactment of one of the last duels to be fought in Guernsey.

In 1794 Major Byng challenged Regimental Surgeon James Taylor.

In the ensuing duel, and contrary to the duelling practice then prevalent, one participant was shot to death.

The Duke of Richmond Hotel, which fronts on to the site of the duel, has commissioned the re-enactment, which will be presented before a banquet to mark the course of the hotel since it was founded.
